OK. You have two separate issues. First let me address the CD burning.
I am assuming you own a CD burner. Most CD burners come equipped with some kind of CD burning software. Media player 9 and the latest RealPlayer include burners, but just for music.
If you do not have CD burning software for your burner, there is a free one available at
www.cdburnerxp.se/features.phpFirst you will need to insert a blank CDR into the CD burner drive.
No matter your software, you will have to first start the software and then choose the option to make a DATA CD.
Next you will be prompted to select which files you wish to add to the CD.
You will need to go to the REAfiles folder and select two files: "REAsetup.exe" and "AUTORUN.inf"
Once you have added these two files, you are ready to burn. Some programs may present you with other options, but usually the default options will work for you.
From here you should just be able to click a button that says BURN or START or similar.
IF the files will not burn, it is not a problem with the REA, but with the CD, the drive, or the CD burning software.
First try replacing the CD with another. Most people do not know it, but about 1 in 50 CDs are bad to begin with.
Next, try another brand of CD. Most brands are compatible with most drives, but occasionally you can find a bad match. It happens. Test this by buying a couple of plain CDRs from the dollar store and see if you can burn anything to them.
If none of these solve the problem, then next place to go is the CD burning software manufacturer followed by the CD burner manufacturer. These items can go bad as well.
REA is just like any other file. Nothing you can do to the file and nothing I can do to the file will make it refuse to burn. If you are able to burn, but the software doesn't work right, that could be an REA problem, but if it won;t copy, it has to do with your burning setup.
Try these issues and then get back to us on the board and let us know where you are. :-)
OK. Next issue: Email.............
You can attach the REAsetup.exe file to your email to send to other people, but lately people have been having problems doing this. Because of the rapid evolution of viruses, many Internet Service Providers and email servers have started filtering out ALL FILES of certain types rather than filtering for specific viruses. The REAsetup.exe file is a standard program file like each and every program on your computer. Many mail providers have stopped allowing people to send PROGRAM files entirely and some have even stopped allowing you to send ZIP files!
Fortunately there are two easy solutions to this:
First of all, there is a great new FREE SERVICE out there called YOUSENDIT at, of course,
www.yousendit.comThis is a free service that will allow you to send any type of file. You simply type in the person's email address and attach the file. The recipient receives an email with a LINK TO DOWNLOAD the file rather than receiving the file itself. They click on the link and then the file is downloaded to their computer. This is terrific for occasional use!
If you plan to send out many via email, the next best easiest way to do it is by uploading it to your own website. Web space is cheap and even free at some places. I recommend GoDaddy.com's economy hosting at $3.95 per month. You simply upload your REAsetup.exe file to your website and then email the address to people. They simply click on the link in their email and download the file. Since you have uploaded it to your own site, you can simply leave the file there and let as many people download it is necessary using the same link. This keeps you from having to go to Yousendit.com every time you want to email it and the email will actually come from you and not YouSendIt.com.
I hope I have helped sort some of these issues out for you. Of course, if you find this all too complicated, you can always buy pre-burned CDs from me, but I recommend that you at least try to sort out the problem first. Most of the time if you canjust find that computer geek kid down the street, they can walk you through it once and you will be good to go. :-) If you have any other issues, please let us know. We are here to help!
Thanks!
