Hi! I just wanted to let people know of something I thought of recently. I had a link on my website where people could download my software. What always bothered me was that I have no idea who the people are who download it. I was thinking of putting a form there for people to fill out before they could download the file. Any thoughts on this?

This is easily done. There is a website called "bravenet" www.bravenet.comThey offer all sorts of neat free tools for your website. They have a free form builder where it asks you questions about your form and then generates the code for it. All you do is copy and paste it into your page. One place asks for the "return" page which is the page it should go to after they fill out the form. Make your first link go to the page with the form. The return page should be a page with an actual link to download the software. One point I know someone once made to me that has done this is that you don;t want to make a form too involved. If you ask for too much information, you may get people who decide to not download the software simply because the form is too inconvenient. If you use a form, keep it simple. Name, email, and maybe phone or address. If you plan to call them, give them an option to check a box that says something like "please contact me about loan offers" and make it checked by default. Well, that's my advice. Good luck with it!

I have two options for people. One is to download it and the other is to have it mailed to them. I specify that to receive the CD is free shipping. Most people I have found actually ask for the mailed CD rather than the download. If they thought they had to pay shipping they wouldn't, but I think people are getting a bit scared to download things. When they fill out the form to have it mailed, I get their info of course. Seems to work well for me.
